Here's who I am and what I do
By Patricia
I was born and grew up in France. I had general and social anxiety throughout my childhood and teenage years which led me to be interested in psychology. After studying at the University of Lyon, I took a big leap of faith and courage to move to Scotland. There I learned English, obtained a 4-year degree, and gave birth to 2 beautiful children. It was not always easy to have no family around me and while my anxiety was better it was still present. I also lived one year in Borneo in Indonesia and arrived in Australia with my 10 and 8 years-old children in 2010. Feeling settled in this beautiful country I thought of furthering my education in helping others in a more practical way. So rather than following another academic path in psychology I chose to study Counselling majoring in Grief & Loss and Relationships Issues which gave me a more hands-on approach to therapy.
I believe in easing client to therapy (hence the name Easy Counselling), knowing each other first, being comfortable chatting. It is as important to me as a counsellor to know my client, as the client knowing me and my style of counselling. Unless, the client is in immediate need of help, in which case I adopt a more practical and fast approach.
I use a mix of therapies but mainly Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution Focus Therapy, Positive Psychology all within the framework of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. It really depends on the client, their needs and level of comfort. I don’t view my role as a counsellor as knowing all the answers but as discovering them in collaboration with my client. I am a support on your own journey to feeling better and/or to self-discovery.
As I started working I realised after a few standard appointments of 50mn a few clients needed me for a shorter time to recap the techniques I taught them, keep them accountable, and getting straight forward answers rather than long discussions. They still needed me but not so much. Since afterall my role as a counsellor is to ensure my clients can one day manage their issues better without me in their life I thought to offer shorter sessions (once we know each other well). I noticed that clients responded well using those shorter sessions as a transition to manage on their own while reducing the cost of their therapy.

No Medicare rebate or Private Health Funds at present, it allows for total privacy from insurance companies or any other organisation. I offer a discounted fee for prepaying 3 sessions as I believe that therapy is a commitment to self-care that should be more accessible. Sessions are mostly online allowing for early morning, late evening and weekend appointments, apart on Wednesdays when I work face-to-face at Radius Medical Centre, Albany Creek. My fees are lower at the clinic because when I increased my fees overtime I chose not to that for those patients , the program has shown great results and it is my privilege to be part of it as well as a way for me to give back to the community.

I am a member of the Australian Counselling Association; I go above their guidelines in supervision requirements and ongoing professional development. I am registered as a counsellor at Queensland Emergency Volunteering. Until recently I volunteered in an age care home which I really enjoy and I am currently studying a Master of counselling.
